Machine-readable marking
Signals embedded in or attached to content so tools may detect artificial generation or manipulation.
AI transparency and truthful provenance
A mark can tell you that artificial intelligence was involved. It usually cannot tell you what the human created, what the system did, what was reviewed, what remains uncertain, or who accepts responsibility. Veristio Press preserves required marks and adds fuller truthful provenance where public work needs more context.
Current framework
Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, Article 50, creates transparency duties for certain AI systems and uses. Providers of systems that generate synthetic audio, image, video, or text content must mark outputs in a machine-readable format and make them detectable as artificially generated or manipulated where technically feasible, subject to stated limitations such as standard editing and inputs that are not substantially altered.
Deployers have different duties. They must disclose covered deepfakes, and must disclose AI-generated or manipulated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest unless the text has undergone human review or editorial control and a natural or legal person holds editorial responsibility. Other Article 50 duties cover direct AI interaction, emotion recognition, and biometric categorisation.
This page is public information, not legal advice. Applicability depends on the system, role, content, publication context, jurisdiction, exceptions, transition rules, and current governing text.
Important distinctions
Signals embedded in or attached to content so tools may detect artificial generation or manipulation.
Human-facing notice that content was generated, manipulated, or presented with AI involvement.
Metadata or provenance records that may describe source, edits, tools, and publication history.
A reader-facing account of human contribution, AI role, review, responsibility, preserved marks, and limits.
Veristio Press position
Veristio Press supports honest disclosure and opposes generalized labels that flatten very different creative facts into the same public signal. Grammar correction is not the same as full generation. Summarizing source material is not the same as fabricating a realistic event. Prompting alone does not establish the same authorship facts for every work.
Veristio Press objects to compulsory, overbroad, blunt, or provider-controlled marks when they stigmatize lawful work, erase human contribution, interfere with creative presentation, or make unverifiable technical assertions. Required or provider-applied marks may coexist with Veristio's fuller disclosure; our mark does not replace a legal duty.
Contribution classifications
A person created the work and AI did not materially generate or alter the expressive content. Routine spelling checks or format cleanup do not turn the work into an AI-generated work.
AI helped with research organization, outlining, grammar, summarization, coding support, or editorial suggestions while the human made the expressive and editorial decisions.
AI generated passages, code, images, audio, video, or other substantial components that a human selected, revised, arranged, and accepted.
The substantive output was generated by AI with no material human-authored expressive contribution beyond prompting, selection, or publication handling.
AI altered existing content in a way that changes how a person, event, object, statement, image, sound, or record appears to a reader or viewer.
Truthful Provenance Mark
When used, the mark records the contribution classification, the named human author or responsible publisher, known systems and tools, AI research, organization, drafting, coding, or editorial-assistance roles, substantive human review, editorial responsibility, any legally required or provider-applied mark preserved or displayed, and what could not be technically verified.
Veristio will claim what its records support. Veristio will not claim legal certification, universal applicability, signatory status in a voluntary code without evidence, inspection of every historical asset, or that a file is watermark-free without reliable inspection.
