I oppose broad mandatory watermarking, labeling, embedded identifiers, or provenance credentials for lawful creative work merely because AI tools were used.

AI assistance does not erase the author, editor, publisher, teacher, or creator who shaped the work, verified it, revised it, and took responsibility for the result. A permanent provider-controlled mark can follow lawful work into places where it may be judged by the tool used rather than by its substance.

Please read the petition first. If you agree, sign it. There is also a separate independent opinion poll. The poll is self-selected and nonrepresentative; taking it does not sign the petition, and signing does not answer the poll.

Should lawful creative work be permanently marked merely because AI tools helped somewhere in the process?

Veristio Press says no to broad mandatory watermarking, labeling, embedded identifiers, and provenance credentials for lawful creative work when creators have not chosen that marking for themselves.

Read the petition first, then sign if you agree. The separate independent poll is self-selected and nonrepresentative; it does not sign the petition for you.

Veristio Press has opened a public petition opposing broad mandatory watermarking, labeling, embedded identifiers, and provenance credentials for lawful creative work merely because AI tools were used.

The issue matters to authors, publishers, educators, creators, and ordinary AI users. Disclosure can be appropriate in deceptive or high-risk contexts, but default provider-controlled marking of lawful work can shift power away from the people who write, edit, verify, teach, publish, and take responsibility for the finished work.

Petition Grounding

Seven Demands

  1. Do not require visible labels, invisible signals, embedded identifiers, or mandatory provenance credentials for lawful creative work merely because AI tools were used.
  2. Keep disclosure voluntary, transparent, and controlled by the creator except in narrowly defined deceptive or high-risk uses adopted through lawful public process.
  3. Require AI providers to inform creators before embedding persistent or machine-detectable marks in text, images, audio, video, or mixed-media work.
  4. Require affirmative creator consent before provider-controlled marks are attached to lawful creative work outside narrowly defined high-risk cases.
  5. Preserve a creator-controlled ability to decline or remove provenance or identification technology before publication of lawful work.
  6. Do not let foreign regulatory implementation become a de facto global publishing rule for American creators without separate United States democratic adoption.
  7. Protect private dissent, sensitive creator experiences, and petition signatures from unauthorized external delivery or lobbying packages.

Public Boundary

What These Materials Do Not Claim

  • No private petition or poll data is displayed or transferred.
  • No petition signature is treated as a poll response, and no poll response is treated as a petition signature.
  • No short link, tracking redirect, ad pixel, conversion event, or paid promotion service is used.
